DESCRIPTION
“The banquet today was amazing! I am so grateful to Good Samaritan Foundation for recognizing nurses as they did today. In between the laughs and the great lunch, were the tears I cried today because I was so proud to be a nurse!! I was so proud of the nurses who were honored. This was so motivating to my peers and myself. I really want to thank you once again. Thank you one again for a memorable experience!!!”
Scharlotta G. Spencer, BSN RN III, Medical /Oncology PCU 5, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands

Positive, feel-good cause can have direct impact on economy and health of local community. Excellence in Nursing Awards Luncheon celebrates excellent nurses who are currently working in the profession. All proceeds benefit nursing school scholarships for current student nurses. 700 nurses, doctors, and medical professionals attend luncheon, so great opportunity for a sponsor who has interest in connecting with the medical community. ALL nurses who are nominated for the award receive recognition, awards certificates, nominee pins, T-shirts, and goody gags. Six Gold Award Winners are featured in 5 minute (per person video). (See samples of praise received at end of description).
One Gold Award Winners and one Silver Medalist are named in each of the following six categories: Large Hospital; Small Hospital; Hospice/Home Healthcare/Clinic/Other; Nursing Education: Clinician; Nursing Education: Faculty; and Nursing Administration and Leadership.

Since its founding in 1951 by the Reverend Clyde Verheyden and six prominent Houstonians, Claud B. Barrett, William Hamlet Blades, Curtis B. Delhomme, J. W. Donaldson, Walter L. Goldston, and R. E. “Bob” Smith, Good Samaritan Foundation has been solely dedicated to nurses and the nursing profession. As the State’s largest nurse scholarship program, Good Samaritan Foundation has granted more than $15 million to over 14,000 students enrolled in nurse education and provides support for LVN to doctoral students.

The Foundation seeks excellence in nursing by increasing the profile of nursing; attracting new young people to the field; alleviating the severe shortage of qualified nurses and nurse faculty by granting scholarships directly to students; supporting nursing school faculty programs; and encouraging increased collaboration among the hospitals, nursing schools, and Greater Houston community. In order to retain experienced nurses in the Texas workforce, Good Samaritan, through the Excellence in Nursing Award, encourages others to celebrate and recognize individual nurses who excel in their chosen fields. Good Samaritan desires to recognize the women and men who are actively working in the nursing profession. The Excellence in Nursing Awards honor registered nurses who are nominated by their peers and selected by a distinguished Awards Selection Committee. These nurses have demonstrated a passion for the nursing profession and exemplify excellence in teaching, mentoring, leadership, and service. We value your commitment and contribution to this important annual event that honors excellence in nursing and provides scholarships to student nurses. We believe that rewarding and recognizing excellent nurses is a key component in retaining quality professionals and addressing the nurse workforce shortage. All proceeds from the luncheon benefit our commitment to support students, education and faculty, and professional nurses. Together, we can work to alleviate the nursing shortage, not only in Houston, but also in Texas.
